An impressive 3-04 from the boots of Down attacker Ruaírí Madine saw the Mourne men get their first win in the Ulster U20 Championship at Pairc Esler this week.

Antrim just couldn’t deal with a first-half onslaught from Madine and his fellow attackers, and although they rallied well in the second half, the Saffrons were no match for Down’s pace and power in that first period.

Down finished the half leading 4-10 to 0-03. Madine had his hat-trick and clubmate Barra McEvoy also hit a major as Antrim gave way to the pressure.

Antrim were much more impressive in the second half hitting five 2pt scores with some brilliant long range shooting but it was the Mourne men’s night and they now face Fermanagh in the next stage of the competition.
