A last-gasp back post header from substitute Eoghan Byrne sparked wild celebration scenes at Iveagh Park, Rathfriland, last night as Warrenpoint Town supporters engulfed their players after a tough battle with hosts Rathfriland Rangers.

Byrne’s 94th-minute winner was a deserved moment for the league leaders who battled hard throughout the game against a very good home side, led by Captain Andrew Kilmartin, who had a lively midfield battle with Warrenpoint’s Jim O’Hanlon.

Warrenpoint face visitors Portstewart on Saturday (19.4.25) at Milltown, where a win would give the seasiders an Intermediate league title for the 24/25 season, and see the South Down club head back into the N.I. Championship for 25/26.

After all the hard work done by a small number of volunteers at Warrenpoint, and the continuing good progress being made by Gary Boyle and his management team, a win on Saturday would be the perfect finale for the blues.
