An immaculate Father Lynch Park awaited the senior footballers of host’s, Ballyholland Harps, and visitors, Clonduff for their opening game of the new Down Division 1 All County League on Sunday (30-3-25)

With four minutes gone, Clonduff led 1-01 to 0-01 thanks to the boot of top forward, Eamon Brown, and the Harps looked rattled. But the home side soon settled into their rhythm, with county player, Seamus Loughran, looking to be in a dangerous mood.

Both sides traded blows in an entertaining first half with the Yella’s heading for the halftime chat leading 1-09 to 1-06.

The second half was played out in a similar manner with both teams committed to winning the game in front of a sizeable opening day crowd.

The midfield battle was pure entertainment on it’s own with Mark Walsh (Harps) and Tom Close (Clonduff) both looking impressive.

As the game headed into the last quarter Clonduff started to turn the screw and finished up with the points winning 2-17 to 2-12

Credit to both teams who produced an entertaining game played on a good surface at Bettys Hill Road.
