NEWRY CITY 1 DUNDELA 1 NEWRY SHOWGROUNDS 14.3.25

A first-minute short back pass from Newry defender Ben Havery was not the ideal start, as Dundela’s Andrew Hall capitalized, beating Lorcan Donnelly to open the scoring at the Showgrounds on Friday night.
It’s was a terrible start for Darren Mullen’s team, and on another night they may have crumbled. But the Newry men knuckled down to the task ahead and started to dominate the first half. With 10 minutes remaining, Newry really turned the screw, leading to Evan McEnteggart going on a strong run and finishing with a deflected left foot shot to bring the sides level on 43 minutes. Brian Healy also had two efforts on goal before referee Mark Dillon blew the whistle for halftime.

Newry continued to bring the game to Dundela in the second half. The home team stretched the Belfast side all over the pitch but just couldn’t find the important winning goal. The final 10 minutes summed up Newry’s night as Darren King, Alex O’Brien, and striker Ryan McNickle all came close but failed to find the target.
Newry still sit second from bottom in the Championship, two points clear of Newington, who have a game in hand.
